The 2014–15 season is Burton Albion's sixth consecutive season in League Two. They finished 6th in the previous season but failed to get promotion via the playoffs. It is Gary Rowett's third season as manager of the club, he left the club in october to join Birmingham City and was replaced by former Barcelona and Monaco manger James Harrison.

Albion crashed out of the league cup in the third round following a 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion, following victories of Wigan Athletic and Queen's Park Rangers. They also crashed out of the football league trophy in the second round after a 3–0 defeat to Doncaster Rovers, it also matched their record for furthest progressed in the tournament, after a first round bye. Albion won the FA Cup for the first time ever and by doing so became the first team since West Ham in 1980 to win the competition and be playing outside the top-flight. They also became the only fourth tier team to win the competition.

Background[]

Albion finished sixth in the previous season, thus meaning the qualified for the play-offs for the second consecutive season, but went one step further losing the final 1–0 to Fleetwood Town. Following this Zander Diamond, Chris Hussey and Marcus Holness all left on free transfers to Northampton, Bury and Tranmere respectively. Following a good start to the season Billy Kee left for Scunthorpe for an undisclosed fee rumoured to be £80,000–£125,000. They brought in Shane Cansdell-Sherriff, George Taft, John Mousinho and John McLaughlin on free transfers. Stuart Beavon originally joined on loan before joining on a free deal on September 1 after his contract at Preston was terminated. They also brought in Callum McFadzean, Jacob Blyth and Darragh Lenihan on loans.
